They process sardines, horse mackerel, and silver-stripe round herring caught in Shimaura into dried fish, such as whole dried fish and opened fish. The sight of many island mothers lined up, quickly skewering the small fish, is truly a display of skilled craftsmanship. Due to the large volume of fish caught and processed in Shimaura, they sell their products to markets and izakaya chains in the Kansai, Tokai, and Tokyo metropolitan areas, which handle large volumes of goods. However, they want to focus on product development and sales so that their products can be used as ingredients in their hometown of Nobeoka. Canned oil sardines are the first step in that direction. The young couple's challenge continues as they strive to make the most of the abundant bounty of Shimaura's sea.
